What is XHTML?

XHTML is associated HTML and XML.

HTML + XML = XHTML

XML (Extensible Markup Langue) is the general markup language. The younger and simpler language version of SGML. This language is primarily intended for publishing documents, when we do not care for his appearance. The appearance can then be changed using CSS for example. Vzpočívá principle that it is a universal text format, where we share the universal text format and do not use specific software companies with formats such as DOC, XLS, etc.

HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language)

It is for Hypertext Markup Language, is used for Web pages (Word Wide Web). This language came from the markup language SGML.

 The difference between HTML and XML vzpočívá differences in stringency of both codes. While in case of errors in the HTML code with the HTML it always tries to see, so if any error XML error reporting and the text will be displayed.

            Finally we come to XHTML. It is therefore a new form of HTML, which saw a combination of both HTML and XML.

Advantages of XHTML

- XHTML documents are also XML documents, so they can be viewed, edited only browsers and WYSIWYG editors and XML tools

- XHTML documents can be created as well as previously existing support for HTML editors and so the new editor that supports XHTML directly

- XHTML documents can utilize (eg scripts, apllety) that work with the HTML document object model, object model, an XML document using SAX or DOM-in

Differences XHTML rather than HTML

- The XHTML, unlike HTML tags must all be completed, including unpaired as <meta>, <link> <br>, or <hr> <img>. Registration may take several forms. Either use the classic (and valid) <img> </ img> or shorter, or slightly modified <img/> <img />. The first method is not recommended for use when sending XHTML document type text / html. The second method, free space, is not recommended for elderly browsers, which in this case to omit the last attribute, if any mentioned.

- The XHTML, unlike HTML, all the tags and their attributes written in small characters and for this reason they are so declared in the referenced DTD and X (HT) ML is case sensitive, so depending on the size of fonts. If we have declared their own DTDs, we can easily use the big letters.

- All attribute values must be enclosed in quotes;

- Document must begin with an XML declaration. Its use is not mandatory if the document is encoded in UTF-8 or higher specifies the encoding protocol (eg HTTP);

- If you need to work with frames, we can declare XTHML 1.0 frameset and the pages XHTML 1.0 Transitional.

- XHTML document, we should send a different MIME type than the standard HTML documents.

- Other differences are not that important and frequent

 We have the following version of XHTML

- XHTML 1.0 Strict

- XHTML 1.0 transitional

- XHTML 1.0 for Frames

- XHTML 1.1
